A Study on the Influence of Economic Policy on Fertility Reduction and the Countermeasures ——Based on China and Foreign Policy

It has been confirmed that China's fertility rate has fallen below the fifth lowest globally and has fully entered the low fertility trap. There is an urgent need to increase the fertility rate. This paper mainly studies the causes of the gradual decline in fertility in China in recent years. It compares the subsidy measures taken by various countries to cope with the low fertility rate. It compares the living cost and economic policy system in China to analyze how China should raise the fertility rate. Through the analysis and summary of the literature, it is found that the reasons for the decrease in China's fertility rate year by year are that the explicit and implicit costs of birth and raising are too high, and the allocation of educational resources is unfair, resulting in low social identity and low happiness. With the gradual decrease of the fertility rate, the population structure changes, and the risk increases, making it difficult for the fertility rate to return to normal. Therefore, China should follow the Nordic countries' policies on parenting costs and social welfare, favor multi-child families, reduce parenting costs after childbirth, improve family happiness, and introduce economic support policies for child-rearing. At the same time, China should avoid the policy risk of "only giving money" and avoid the ineffective phenomenon of increasing welfare but declining fertility rates instead of rising.

The Impact of Tax Cuts on Exchange Rate Changes in The Context of High Inflation and High Debt: Evidence from The UK "Mini-Budget"

This research mainly focuses on the exchange rate fluctuations after the British government of Liz Truss announced to introduce the tax reduction policies, mini-budget. This budget covers the abolition of the highest 45% income tax rate, turning down the income tax and partial stamp duty, aiming to provide greater tax relief to the wealthy to encourage investment and consumption. Based on the SVAR, in the case of high inflation and high debt, tax reduction policies may further intensify the pressure of currency depreciation, leading to a significant decline in the exchange rate. In addition, this paper found that fiscal expenditures and inflation rate have significant and persistent impact on the exchange rate. The conclusion of this research emphasizes that the tax reduction policies in the context of high inflation and high debt will exacerbate the exchange rate fluctuations, which has important implications for policy makers and market participants. In the current highly unstable global economy, a deep understanding of the impact of tax reduction policies on the money market is crucial for stabilizing the economy and monetary system.

Impact of Climate Policies on Occupations in the United States

Climate policies benefit the environment, but they can also incur costs in the economy. This paper examines two climate policies, which are carbon tax and cap and trade, and focuses on the impact of carbon tax and cap and trade on occupations in the United States, since different states in the U.S. implement different climate policies. The study finds that carbon tax and cap and trade benefit green occupations, skilled occupations, and large-sized firms and damage non-green occupations, unskilled occupations, and small and middle-sized firms. By analyzing and comparing the employment rate of occupations in each category, this study determines that climate policies stifle occupations, but not all types of occupations, and when certain premises are met, carbon tax creates occupations. This research paper contributes to the literature by exploring the costs of carbon tax and cap and trade and helps the public to respond to environmental issues more effectively.

Influence of ESG Performance on Fund's Propensity to Hold Shares -Empirical Evidence from China's A-share Listed Enterprises

With the prevalence of the ESG investment concept in China, the scale of ESG investment continues to grow. Taking A-share listed firms as the study sample, this research study empirically investigates the influence and mechanism of corporate ESG performance on the tendency of fund shareholding. The study findings indicate that corporations with better ESG performances are more inclined to attract funds to hold shares. Further, the impact mechanism analysis shows that ESG affects fund ownership mainly through two paths: reducing the risk of stock price collapse and improving the financial performance of enterprises. Further research finds that ESG performance exerts a stronger impact on increasing fund ownership in non-SOE firms than in state-owned firms. Also, firms with sound ESG performance are more inclined to pay cash dividends to return to shareholders. The extended study finds that the effect of ESG on fund shareholding behavior is mainly due to the enhancing effect of three dimensions: management practices, environmental dimension, and social dimension. The conclusion remains unchanged after passing tests such as endogeneity. This research extends a theoretical reference for comprehending the role of ESG in the capital market.

The Climate Consequences and the Impact on Energy Structure from National Disputes

Climate change is a specific contradiction between human activity and the natural environment, especially after the Industrial Revolution. War, as the human activity with the highest intensity, plays an important role in the modern era. This paper comprehensively analyzes the negative and positive impacts of war on climate change. On the one hand, the war increases the carbon emission from post-war reconstruction and the direct destruction brought by the war. On the other hand, war especially war involving major energy-producing countries warns other countries to take an effort to reduce their reliance on fossil-fuel that those energy-producing countries are dominating. This will make the war become beneficial for energy transformation from fossil fuel to renewables. It specifically takes the Yom-Kippur War and the Russia-Ukraine War as examples to illustrate this statement. Meanwhile, it presents a hypothesis, trying to explain the reasons behind the cyclical instability and armed conflict in certain energy-rich regions since the 20th century by making the connection between energy and political circumstance, investigating the continuous impact of war on climate change due to the war and regional instability that linger like a recurring nightmare for decades.

Waste Classification’s Contribution to Sustainable Development: A Case Study on Shanghai

This paper explores Shanghai’s comprehensive waste classification policy, highlighting its impact on waste reduction, recycling, and the economy. The policy engages citizens in waste sorting at the source and leverages a combination of regulations, incentives, and penalties. This study examines the policy’s outcomes, including increased recyclable recovery, reduced hazardous waste, and conversion of waste to valuable resources. Economic benefits such as job creation and a recycling-driven economy are discussed as government investment has boosted the recyclable sector. Growing customer demand under the new policy also creates more jobs. However, challenges such as economic strain and impacts on informal waste collectors should also be acknowledged. Environmental and social concerns, such as plastic bag usage and public dissatisfaction are also addressed. Drawing lessons from waste classification policies in Tokyo and Germany, potential solutions are suggested, including regulatory enhancements, charging mechanisms, stakeholder cooperation, and expanded recycling channels. The abstract underscores the need for continuous evaluation, adaptation, and collaboration to ensure the policy’s success in fostering a sustainable urban environment.
