Application of Trade-off Theory in Real-Life Corporate Capital Structure Adjustments

Trade-off theory is one of the important theories for firms to adjust their capital structure. However, there is still controversy about its applicability in reality. This paper focuses on exploring its practicality by analysing the literature and after examining the literature on commercial banks in Bangladesh, it is found that the impact of different financial indicators of these banks on the changes in their capital structure is consistent with the assumptions of the trade-off theory, and it is reasonably argued that the reason why firms in reality tend to use debt financing can be explained by the fact that firms are trying to gain the advantage of the tax shield. The paper also analyses the change in firm value of firms with different debt levels about the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States and demonstrates that firms with high debt levels experience a decline in firm value as their probability of bankruptcy increases, which is consistent with the trade-off theory. In addition, while the traditional view is that the trade-off theory can only explain why firms with higher profitability have high debt ratios, this paper argues that the theory can also explain why firms with high profitability have low debt ratios. Therefore, this paper proposes a reasonable explanation for the utility of the trade-off theory.

Mental Health and Productivity Development: An Analytical Perspective from Hospital Construction

Amidst the rising prevalence of mental health issues, this study critically examines the potential contribution of hospital construction to overall productivity. Utilizing a one-dimensional linear regression model, the paper draws insights from provincial panel data spanning the period 1996 to 2021, sourced from the National Bureau of Statistics of China. Additionally, robustness tests are conducted. This analysis aims to uncover patterns of heterogeneity across varying temporal, regional, and industrial contexts. The key findings of the study are as follows: 1. A positive correlation exists between the number of medical and health institutions in each Chinese region and the respective gross domestic product of that region. 2. The impact of the number of medical and health institutions on China's gross domestic product follows a descending order: the western region, the north-eastern region, the central region, and the eastern region. 3. The number of medical and health institutions in each Chinese region had the most significant positive effect on the gross domestic product after the 2008 financial crisis. The second-highest positive effect was observed before China's accession to the WTO in 2001, with no significant impact detected after the WTO accession or before the financial crisis in 2008. 4. The study reveals that hospital construction has the most substantial impact on the development of the service sector, the second strongest impact on the industrial sector, and the least impact on the agricultural sector.

The Impact of Industrial Upgrading and Integration on the Development of Poor Areas: Based on the Survival Analysis of 76 National-level Poor Counties in China

In 2020, China achieved phased victories in poverty alleviation, bringing valuable successful experience to the world's poverty alleviation cause. Most prior research on recidivism and poverty alleviation in disadvantaged areas has either explored a small number of cases or concentrated exclusively on individual factors within poor households, failing to sufficiently account for regional variations. But historically, the majority of research on industrial integration and upgrading was focused on larger economies, giving impoverished regions little consideration. This paper randomly selects 76 poverty-stricken counties from 832 national poverty-stricken counties in China, and makes a quantitative analysis of their successful experience from the perspective of industrial upgrading and industrial integration. The study's findings deviate from earlier studies in that they show that industrial upgrading has a limited effect on the development of impoverished regions and that sophisticated industrial structure has a significantly smaller influence in poor areas than it does in areas with greater levels of development. This study also reveals that the development of impoverished areas is impacted differently by the integration of various businesses. The secondary industry, which has a higher degree of integration with the primary industry, plays a stronger role in promoting regional development, while the tertiary industry, which has a long development cycle and many conditions, plays a lesser role in regional development.

As the overall growth rate of China's e-commerce industry gradually slows down and enters a new stage of development, some market segments and e-commerce models have shown great potential and have attracted widespread attention. With its unique trading model and advantages, C2B2C has become the new darling of capital and the market. In this paper, the current application of the C2B2C model in China and the characteristics of the model are elaborated. Aiming at the application of this model in China's e-commerce market, this paper analyzes the characteristics and advantages of their respective C2B2C models by taking “Poizon” and “Zhuan Zhuan” as examples. At the same time, it also gives a reasonable conjecture and analysis of the future of this model in China. Through research, it is found that this model is fundamentally different from conventional C2C e-commerce and B2C e-commerce, and has huge advantages in some e-commerce market segments, and in the future, it is bound to have a broader market and recognition.
